How to be the perfect fast bowler

“The basic bowling action can be broken down into three main areas. Run up, delivery stride and point of release. We will start with the run up. The key to any run up is that you feel comfortable, and you get momentum going into your delivery stride.

Ideally it wants to be a rhythmical run which is aligned towards your target. When you mark a run up make sure you know exactly how far it is. Our suggestion would be to use a tape measure. That way it doesn’t change from game to game.

Once you have landed in your delivery stride, the key is to stabilise the back leg. So it doesn’t collapse, and you don’t lose your height. Try and keep your hips and shoulders aligned so it enables you to get through your action as quickly as possible. Ideally a well braced front leg will maximise height and enable you to get more bounce. On release, make sure your wrist and fingers are right behind the ball. To allow you to swing and see the ball.

Finally, don’t forget your follow through. A good rotation of the shoulders and hips will help you to get a strong, powerful follow through.
